Besakih Temple perched high on the slope of Mount Agung, 3142 meters, the highest peak of Bali, thus it is considered to be the holiest place in Bali. This is Bali’s Mother Temple, the biggest, the most important and the holiest temple on this island. On the way to get there, we will stop at Tohpati, the center of Balinese hand weaving and hand made Batik process. Then we will proceed to Klungkung, the old capital of Bali (1740-1908), to see the Court of Justice (Kerta Gosa), and the Floating Pavilion (Bale Kambang), whose murals are decorated by the best examples of classical Balinese painting. Afterwards, we will stop at Bukit Jambul, ‘the crested hill’ with nice view of terraced rice fields. On the way back, we will visit the Elephant Cave (Goa Gajah), an ancient Hindu-Buddhist hermitage dated from XI century.

Continuing the trip, we will stop at Downtown Denpasar. At close distances, we can see several interesting places, such as: Puputan Square, on September 16, 1906, this was the battleground between the invading Dutch troops and Badung people; Jagatnatha Temple, the town main temple with single shrine to The Supreme God (Sang Hyang Widhi), and Bali Museum, with large collection of prehistoric and historic items, high quality handicrafts, ritual utensils and daily tools used by the local people.

Wayang Kulit or shadow puppet play is one of the most popular performances in Bali. The figures of the Wayang Kulit can move and speak manipulated by a puppeteer or a dalang. It is usually performed in relation to Balinese religious ceremonies, such as: three months old of a baby,

an otonon or 210 day old of baby or a cremation. It is also held in temple festivals or in order to sweep away dirt or nyapuleger (only for those who were born on Tumpek Wayang day) or simply for entertainment (rame-rame). Now you have an opportunity to see this old community’s school in

a shadow puppet show while enjoying your favourite dishes.

The classical Legong Kraton Dance was performed for king’s entertainment. It is performed by three girls dressed in gold brocades and flowered headdresses. The story tells King Lasem kidnapped Princess Rangkasari, the daughter of Daha King. Her brother demanded King Lasem to set her free otherwise facing a war but the king refused. On the way to the war he met an eagle that was a bad omen and eventually he was killed. Other dances will also be performed such as:

Baris Warrior dance, Tambulilingan Bumble Bee Dance etc. (Sumptuous dinner will be provided in

   BLT 16: Kecak (Monkey) and Fire Dance With Dinner

We will leave for Penelokan, Kintamani very early in the morning. Around 4.00 o’clock we will go down to the volcano’s foot to start climbing, accompanied by an experienced guide. At half way up, we’ll take a rest briefly and around 6.00 o’clock we will reach the top just in time to see the beautiful sunrise over Mount Abang and Mount Agung, and on clear days it is also possible to see Mount Rinjani in Lombok. While enjoying the sunrise, we will have our simple breakfast with our ‘special volcanic steam eggs’. On the way down we will have another rest and then we will relax on a hot spring at Toyabungkah.
