GENERAL INFORMATION

IMMIGRATION

All visitors to Indonesia must get passport, which is valid for at least six months when entering this country and either a return or onward ticket. Free-entry-visa for tourist -valid only for two months of stay and can not be extended- is permitted for ASEAN countries (Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Philippine, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Kampuchea, Myanmar), Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Republic Of Korea, USA, Canada, European Community Member, Austria, Switzerland, and Scandinavian Countries. Otherwise, visa will be required for three months of stay and extendable.

CUSTOM REGULATIONS

The following articles, next to those for personal use, are allowed to be carried along: personal photo, film or video camera, 2 litres of alcoholic beverages, 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100 g of tobacco, a reasonable quantity of perfume and presents which do not exceed the value of US$ 100,00. It is strictly forbidden to import Chinese printed matters, pornographic printed material, recorded videotapes, arms and ammunition, drugs and fresh fruits.

AIRPORT TAX

Your return ticket must be reconfirmed at least 3 days before departure. Your tour guide will do this for you, so please don’t forget to bring your flight ticket with you to your first arranged meeting with your guide. Every time you leave trough the airport, there will be airport tax charge: Rp. 100.000/person for international departure and Rp. 11.000/person for domestic departure

CLIMATE
Bali has only two seasons: the dry/hot season (from May to October) and the wet/rainy season (from November to April). The rain is scarce, windy and sunny cooler months. As a tropical country, it is always warm in the low lands and in coastal areas, with temperature around 35ºC to 27ºC. In the mountains and highlands the lowest temperature is 13ºC at night. Sunrises at 06.15 AM, almost along the year and sunset will be at around 18.15 PM. All the year it is almost always hot; so cotton clothes will be fit for perspiration and sweat.

HEALTH
Officially there are no vaccinations required, but it is still recommended for visitors to keep tablets for stomach upsets (vomiting, diarrhoea) and to avoid drinking un-boiled water or ice from wayside while travelling. Antiseptic creams and insect repellents are useful, also antibiotic for infections, particularly respiratory infections.

CURRENCY
Local Indonesia currency is Rupiah. There are 100, 500, 1.000, 5.000, 10.000, 20.000, 50.000, 100.000 notes and coin 25, 50, 100, 500, 1.000. No restrictions on the amount of foreign currencies that can be brought in or taken out of this country. Most foreign currencies and traveller cheques are easily changed. Please always re-check and re-count your money in front of the cashier if you make money change. When cashing Traveller Cheques your passport will be required and the cheque must be counter signed in front of the cashier. Traveller Cheques are also accepted at many shops. However Credit Cards are not widely accepted yet, except in first class hotels and big souvenir shops. Cards most accepted are American Express, Visa, Bankcard, and Dinner. It is advisable to always keep Rupiah when travelling around Bali.

CLOTHING
Casual and light cotton clothes are normally recommended during the day due to the hot and dry areas. Short and swimwear are acceptable around the beach and around hotel; cannot be used while visiting villages or town. Short and mini skirts are strictly not allowed in and around temples and attending ceremonies. A light sweater and jacket should be taken when taking mountain excursion.

CUSTOM AND TRADITION
Here in Bali, it is recommended to follow the local customs to express the respect for religious traditions. For example, taking off the shoes in temples, on festival grounds and in private houses. When attending temples ceremony please use sarong and sash; never walk in front of people praying, don’t push your camera to the priest’s face, never sit higher than the priest and the offerings. Women are not allowed to enter temples during menstruation. Please never touch someone’s head (including children) or point your finger at someone, as this will be considered impolite. When giving or taking something to or from someone kindly use the right hand due the left hand is considered unclean.
Bali is famous for it’s woodcarving and sculptures, silver and gold jewellery, woven clothes, sarongs, traditional and realist paintings, bone and coconut shell carvings, antiques, basket wares and masks. Generally, bargaining does shopping. Balinese love to bargain. But there is still one rule: both buyer and seller should end in satisfy.

INSURANCE
Before traveling to Bali, make sure you either have your personal insurance or travel insurance that will cover any accidents.
